"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place." —Iain Thomas
NOT YOUR TYPICAL LIFESTYLE BLOG
Hey hi hello!
I'm a compulsive writer, self-taught designer, and developing brand strategist, currently seeking the meaning of life (among other things).
some of my favorite things
Reading, traveling, cats, jasmine tea, minimalist design, vintage slang, soft blankets, British humor, good ramen, short poetry, miniature desserts, portmanteaus, pug socks, psychology, typography, dark lipsticks, and comfy cardigans.
some of my core beliefs
The best things are beautiful, intentional, and meaningful.
Feminism is a great product with terrible branding.
Creativity is not fixed. Supporting other people in their creative pursuits fosters more creativity.
The Oxford comma is an absolute necessity.
Art is both frequently unsatisfying and vitally important.
Avocados should count as vegetables.
The phrase "very unique" is nonsensical because you can't have varying degrees of uniqueness. It either is or it isn't.
"Culture" is not something you build, but something you practice.
Good writing is not a measure of intelligence, but good grammar is.
There is no situation in which brown butter isn't the better option.
Good design often renders technology superfluous, and the future is in integrated design.
The discovery of universal human truths is the key to absolutely everything.
I've always thought the term "lifestyle blog" was unsatisfactory. I wanted a blog with a purpose. I wanted to focus equally on the aestheticism and essence of life that make it so wonderful, and the most unglamorous and grotesque parts of it as well. Because life is messy and imperfect, and that's part of its charm. And because interests in a good-quality highlighter and child sex trafficking shouldn't be mutually exclusive.
I couldn't find any other lifestyle blogs that actually discussed things of substance, so I decided to write one. This blog was created as a way to share my thoughts, my personal projects, and other things I'm passionate about: the places I travel, the food I make, the things I read, and the little inklings that keep me awake at night. You can click the button below to visit the blog, or you can subscribe in the box to get posts emailed to you. I hope you find something interesting here, and if you do, feel free to say hi!
